South Dade Transit Operations Center

The South Dade Transit Operations Center serves as the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW)’s new facility for charging, servicing, and operating a fleet of 100 battery-electric buses dedicated to the South Dade Transitway and the surrounding communities.

Situated on a 20-acre site, the nine-building complex is the County’s first fully electric bus maintenance campus. The dynamic layout features a series of structures anchored by a two-story Bus Charging and Employee Parking Garage, connected via a pedestrian bridge to the two-story Maintenance and Operations Building to the east. Bus movement is carefully organized to follow an efficient sequence for charging, cleaning, and servicing. Secure, separate entrances for buses and employees include checkpoint and monitoring facilities. The Gate Arm Maintenance building operates independently while supporting the overall South Corridor Transitway program. Administrative offices, driver areas, and other support functions are also integrated within the campus.

The facility is designed to function as an Emergency Command Center for DTPW operations during major storms or other emergencies.

Community-oriented enhancements include roadway and drainage improvements, new pedestrian sidewalks with interpretive parklets, native landscaping, and buffer zones. Upon completion, the South Dade Transit Operations Center will stand as a model of sustainability and resilience, reflecting Miami-Dade County’s commitment to innovative, environmentally responsible transit infrastructure.
