Airport Link Metrorail Orange Line Extension

Perez & Perez Architects served as the design architect for the 2.4-mile Airport Link Metrorail Extension, connecting Earlington Heights Station to the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC) for direct access to Miami International Airport. The project features a three-level Metrorail station, elevated guideways, traction power substations, and advanced train control systems, seamlessly integrating with existing heavy rail and bus networks.

A defining element of the design is the dynamic platform canopy, created through advanced digital modeling to enhance the passenger experience and celebrate the role of mass transit. The multi-level facility includes an 80,000-square-foot plaza level with 14 bus berths and support spaces, a 3,500 sf intermediate level with drop-off access, and a 17,500 sf platform level beneath the sculptural canopy.

This award-winning project received the 2006 AIA Award of Honor in the Unbuilt Category and the 2012 AIA Award of Honor in the Built Category.
